Located near West Wyalong in central New South Wales, Cowal is a residential site where we encourage our people to live nearby and enjoy the close-knit communities and lifestyles of the surrounding areas.

This roster is 5:2 / 4:3, 10 hour day shifts.

About the Role
As an Environmental Advisor at Cowal, you’ll help protect and enhance one of NSW’s most environmentally complex and biodiverse mining operations. In this role, you will contribute across both field and office based environmental programs, ensuring the site meets its regulatory obligations while driving continuous improvement.
Key responsibilities include:
Environmental Monitoring & Compliance
- Coordinate and undertake environmental monitoring activities in line with licences, permits and regulatory conditions
- Verify data integrity and program integrity as part of QA/QC processes.
- Interpret environmental data, identify anomalies and recommend corrective actions.
- Prepare monitoring reports for internal processes and statutory submission.
Field Work & Biodiversity Management
- Conduct field assessments, sampling and surveys across land, water, flora, fauna and rehabilitation areas.
- Support biodiversity offsets, rehabilitation programs, mine closure and land management strategies.
- Respond to environmental incidents including fauna recovery and spill support.
Stakeholder Engagement & Operational Support
- Provide practical environmental advice to operators, supervisors and leaders to support compliant, safe operations.
- Act as the point of contact for assigned departments on environmental risks and obligations.
- Build strong relationships across site, regulators, contractors and community stakeholders.
Planning, Reporting & Continuous Improvement
- Support development of budgets and schedules for monitoring programs.
- Prepare and review environmental management plans, procedures and SWIs.
- Identify opportunities for innovation — applying both new and traditional techniques to improve environmental performance.
- Contribute to audits, investigations and corrective/preventative action plans.
About You
You’re an environmentally minded professional who thrives in a dynamic operational environment and enjoys balancing hands on field work with analytical reporting. You bring 2–3 years’ experience in environmental management, ideally within the resources, mining, construction or engineering sectors.
You have a strong understanding of environmental compliance frameworks, permitting, and monitoring programs, and you’re confident interpreting data, identifying anomalies and recommending follow up actions. You enjoy engaging with operational teams, providing advice, and influencing outcomes in a practical, solutions focused way.
You’ll also have:
- A degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Environmental Engineering or similar.
- Experience with field monitoring, data management, water quality and environmental reporting.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work autonomously and maintain attention to detail.
- Confidence working outdoors, including 4x4 driving and sampling activities.
- A boat licence (or willingness to obtain one).
- Competence using QGIS and environmental databases such as MonitorPro (advantageous).
