This roster is 8/6 and a 12 hour day.

About the role

 

Your previous experience will ensure you will excel in providing geotechnical expertise and support to the Integrated Planning and Underground Mining Departments whilst conducting geotechnical engineering design, inspection and analysis related to, stope stability, underground infrastructure, and underground development.

Your responsibilities although not limited to will include:

  • Ensuring all controls to manage Underground Mine global stability, rockfall and inrush risks are effective
  • Collaborate with the open pit geotechnical team to manage shared geotechnical risks to Cowal Gold Operations
  • Ensure the Ground Control Management Plan is implemented
  • Conduct field observations and visits to verify that work performed complies with standards and Safe Work Practices
  • Be proactive in identifying, reporting, and seeking rectification of hazards and eliminating risk taking behaviours or actions
  • Maintain a positive attitude towards safety in the workplace and increase safety awareness, lead safety training, and set an example for others
  • Provide geotechnically sound solutions for stope design and underground development design.
  • Assist the Senior Underground Geotechnical Engineer with providing geotechnically sound solutions for stope sequencing, underground infrastructure design, and portal design
  • Conduct data collection, data storage, and modelling activities to maintain the Underground structural model and enable risk management to be effective
  • Utilise geotechnical analysis software to predict geotechnical conditions which may develop into hazards
  • Collaborate with underground engineers to manage stope stability and recovery
  • Attend underground daily production meetings and provide geotechnical input for the benefit of the production team
  • Assist the Senior Underground Geotechnical Engineer in the management of geotechnical projects

 

About you

You will require the following qualifications, skills and experience:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Mining / Geoscience / Civil with major in Geomechanics or equivalent
  • Demonstrated experience in a similar role in underground mining or civil tunnelling
  • Working understanding of safety systems, geotechnical controls, and mining operations
  • Working knowledge all legislative and regulatory requirements
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate with a broad range of teams and personnel backgrounds
  • Excellent relationship building skills and can influence people of all backgrounds
  • Flexibility to operate in a dynamic work environment
  • Self-directed to achieve individual, team and organizational goals
  • Well-developed analytical and communication skills
  • The ability to initiate and effect change and achieve required results
  • Adaptability to regularly meet tight deadlines and shift priorities when necessary
  • Technical skills in geotechnical modelling and CAD software
  • Competent user of MS Office tools
