About the role
This role is responsible for the safe and efficient movement of ore and waste rock within open-cut mining operations. It requires a strong commitment to safety, environmental compliance, and operational efficiency while working collaboratively within a team environment. The position involves operating machinery competently, following procedures, and maintaining clear communication with supervisors and colleagues to ensure smooth and productive mining operations.
- Maximize equipment operating time, haul material to correct locations, and use the Minestar GPS system effectively. Ensure all material is transported to the designated areas to minimize ore dilution and loss, optimizing haul routes for efficiency and safety. Report any GPS discrepancies or faults to supervisors promptly.
- Follow all safety protocols, attend pre-start meetings, use PPE, and report incidents promptly. Maintain a high level of situational awareness to identify and mitigate hazards. Adhere to all mine site safety policies, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. Encourage a strong safety culture among team members.
- Maintain accurate documentation and reporting to supervisors each shift. Complete all relevant logs, sheets, and reports in a timely and precise manner, ensuring data integrity for operational planning and compliance purposes. Communicate any issues or anomalies observed during the shift.
- Actively participate in training, seek coaching, and maintain clear communication with team members. Continuously improve skills through training programs, mentorship, and feedback from supervisors. Assist less experienced team members by sharing knowledge and best practices. Engage in toolbox talks and team discussions to enhance collaboration.
- Ensure compliance with environmental procedures, legislation, and site-specific management systems. Adhere to environmental protection guidelines, minimize waste and spillage, and actively contribute to sustainability initiatives. Report any environmental concerns or deviations from procedures.
- Contribute to productivity initiatives and proactively identify and mitigate potential hazards. Engage in continuous improvement efforts to enhance efficiency, reduce downtime, and optimize equipment usage. Take initiative in identifying risks and implementing corrective actions to improve workplace safety and operational performance.
About you
Reporting to the Shift Supervisor, you will be responsible for operating heavy equipment in an open-pit mining environment while ensuring safety, efficiency, and compliance with operational procedures. This role requires a valid Australian Motor Vehicle Licence, with nationally accredited mining competencies and a Cert IV TAE being desirable.
Qualifications Required:
- Australian Motor Vehicle Licence (mandatory)
- Nationally accredited competencies in Mining (desirable)
- Cert IV in Training and Assessment (TAE) (desirable)
- Proven experience in operating heavy equipment in an open-pit mining environment (desirable)
To succeed in this role, you will need to work a panelled roster, maintain high work standards, and follow instructions and procedures with diligence. Strong teamwork, adaptability, and the ability to remain calm under pressure are essential. You will play an active role in fostering a positive and safe work environment by challenging unsafe behaviours and upholding workplace values. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated individual with a strong work ethic and a solid understanding of mine planning information. Effective communication and relationship-building skills are key, along with the ability to prioritise tasks and schedule work efficiently to meet production targets.
