This roster will be 8/6 and a 12-hour day.

About the role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our team as a Senior Mining Supervisor – Open Pit, your purpose is to deliver results and be the driving force behind our daily mining operations with the potential to progress into further leadership roles in the future.

A strong focus on continuous improvement and fostering a positive safety culture is essential. The role demands leadership, communication skills, and the ability to perform under pressure.

In this pivotal role, your primary responsibility will be to oversee and coordinate daily and weekly mining activities, ensuring operations are conducted safely and efficiently. You will collaborate closely with the mining team and key stakeholders to uphold industry standards, drive continuous improvement, and support the successful delivery of operational and financial targets. Your leadership will be critical in driving productivity and fostering a culture of safety and excellence within the team.

 

Your duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Supervising and leading daily mining activities, including drill and blast, water management, and roads and infrastructure management across the site.
  • Managing contractors working within mining operational areas to ensure safety and efficiency in contract works.
  • Driving productivity improvements to ensure operational and financial targets are met.
  • Providing regular commentary on variations against targets on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis.
  • Leading improvement projects aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and maintaining cost discipline.
  • Facilitating regular safety meetings and ensuring issues and hazards are logged, with actions taken in relevant safety systems.

Additionally, you will be responsible for conducting safety inspections, managing incident investigations, mentoring personnel, and ensuring seamless communication between shifts and teams. You will also provide technical input in pre-planning meetings, support weekend operations, and step in to relieve the Superintendent - Mine Operations when necessary.

 

About you

By joining our team, you will play an integral role in contributing to the success of our mining operations, while helping to cultivate a culture of safety, efficiency, and excellence.

We are seeking candidates with a five plus years of experience supervising mining crews conducting shift work in an acting or substantive role or managing a team of technical professionals. Previous experience with heavy equipment, open cut hard rock mining operations, road construction, or technical work planning with similar machinery is highly preferred. A strong background in managing budgets, tracking costs, and financials is essential, as is the ability to manage contract partners and suppliers effectively. Candidates must have a solid understanding of the Work Health and Safety Acts and Regulations, and possess a self-motivated, strong work ethic with the ability to inspire and lead large teams. A good understanding of mine planning information and the ability to implement it is required, along with strong skills in prioritizing and scheduling work to meet and exceed deadlines. Experience in incident and hazard management, as well as conducting investigations, is also important. Effective verbal and written communication skills, excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship-building abilities at all levels, and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Pronto (or similar systems) are necessary for success in this role.
