About the role

 

The role supports the Superintendent Environment in implementing and improving the Cowal Gold Operations' Environmental Management System. This includes ensuring regulatory compliance, promoting sustainable practices, and aiding the Manager - Sustainability with approvals and permits.

 

Key responsibilities will include:

 

  • Offering subject matter advice, environmental services, and coaching on applying environmental policy and standards on-site.
  • Monitoring Commonwealth and State legislation for relevant changes and risks.
  • Supporting the development and implementation of environment management systems and governance programs to ensure compliance and minimize environmental harm.
  • Implementing and monitoring environmental monitoring and reporting programs.
  • Developing environmental management plans, strategies, and associated programs.
  • Assisting in annual strategic and tactical planning for the environmental function, including budgeting and performance metrics.
  • Promoting positive relations with government regulators, local landholders, and stakeholders through consultation and engagement.
  • Supervising and coaching direct reports for career development.
  • Assisting with approvals, permits, and feasibility studies.
  • Acting as the designated department's point of contact for managing environmental risks and compliance.
  • Providing emergency response for injured fauna, spills, or environmental incidents.
  • Demonstrate behaviours aligned with the Evolution Mining values.

About you

 

The ideal candidate for this position will possess demonstrable expertise in mine rehabilitation, NGERs data collection, and reporting, along with proficiency in building organizational capability, coaching, and mentoring. You should excel in delivering tangible business results while demonstrating proficiency in innovation, change management, and effective stakeholder interaction. Strong analytical and interpersonal skills are essential. You should have expertise in report writing and software tools like Pronto, MS Word, and Excel, enabling effective engagement and relationship-building.

 

To be considered you must hold a degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, or a relevant scientific discipline. Experience in a mine site environmental with exposure to water management, waste management, incident investigation, and environmental management is required, Practical knowledge of environmental approvals requirements and strategies, familiarity with relevant environmental legislation, and experience in establishing, implementing, and managing Environmental Management Systems (EMS) and frameworks (ISO14001) are also required.
