About the role

 

Reporting to the Superintendent – Safety Health & Training the purpose of this position is to monitor, and review the Mine Emergency Management Plan, emergency response capability, the Health and Hygiene Management plans and site security.  The role is responsible for the continuous improvement of the emergency management, health, hygiene, and security space and implementing best practice initiatives and programs to assist Cowal Operations to move towards becoming an industry leading Organisation. 

 

Key Responsibilities will include:

 

  • Providing professional advice and hands-on support for the effective implementation and compliance of the site Emergency Preparation and Response Plan, encompassing Emergency Management Plan development, evacuation drills, emergency response team training, and maintenance of emergency equipment.
  • Ensuring site access control and security coordination are effective and compliant, including systems management, reporting, administration, and area access management, as well as conducting AOD specimen collection for testing purposes.
  • Offering professional guidance and practical assistance for the Health, Occupational Hygiene, Injury Management, and Wellbeing Plans, including the development, implementation, monitoring, and review of chemical and hazardous substances management plans, occupational hygiene management plans, and coordination of monitoring programs.
  • Facilitating employee training and awareness programs on occupational hygiene and PPE fitment, manage CGO medical surveillance programs, coordinate rehabilitation and return-to-work activities for injured workers, and manage acute injury incidents on site.
  • Engaging stakeholders and drive health and wellbeing initiatives, focusing on fatigue management, wellbeing, nutrition, workplace ergonomics, manual handling, general health and fitness, and psychosocial safety.

About you

 

The ideal candidate for this position should possess a Tertiary Qualification in Health and Safety or a Diploma of Workplace Health and Safety or demonstrate equivalent relevant experience. Additionally, they should hold a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, an Occupational First Aid certificate, and preferably an Industrial Paramedic qualification or Mining Emergency Response experience. Experience at a Senior level within a medium to large organization, leading teams, is essential, along with a minimum of 5 years in Emergency Response. A comprehensive understanding of NSW WHS legislation and its application to health and safety risk management is crucial. The candidate should excel in promoting collaboration, effective communication with all stakeholders, and displaying leadership presence, leading by example. They must deliver business results, drive innovation and change initiatives, possess excellent knowledge of security protocols, and excel in knowledge sharing. Strong written and oral presentation skills are required, along with the ability to lead a small team, support individual leadership and career development, and influence, coach, and mentor to meet key performance indicators. Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is necessary.
