This roster is 5/2:4/3 and a 10 hour day.

About the Role
This isn’t a role for someone who wants to maintain the status quo. It’s for the builder, the fixer, the strategist. The kind of person who sees a legacy system and thinks, “Let’s make this better.”
Cowal is in the middle of a major growth phase. We’re expanding our open pit operations, integrating underground mining, and maintaining a high throughput processing facility. That means more people, more complexity, and a bigger need for smart, scalable training systems. You’ll be at the centre of it all.
Reporting to the Superintendent – Safety, Health & Training, you’ll lead a small, capable team and take full ownership of our training ecosystem. You’ll tear down what’s outdated and architect something smarter, sharper, and future ready. Your top priorities will be rebuilding the Training Needs Analysis (TNA), lifting compliance, and designing a 12-month training plan that supports our growth and commitment to operational excellence.

About You
You’re not just experienced, you’re inventive. You’ve worked in mining or heavy industry, led training initiatives, and know how to turn chaos into clarity. You’re the kind of person who asks “why?” and then builds the “how.” You see systems not just for what they are, but for what they could be.
You’ve probably spent time in roles where your ideas were shelved, your budget was squeezed, and your impact was limited. You’re ready for more! More autonomy. More complexity. More opportunity to lead something meaningful. You want to be trusted to make decisions, backed to deliver, and supported to grow.
You hold a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40116 or successor), and ideally a tertiary qualification in a training-related discipline. But what really sets you apart is your mindset: curious, strategic, and relentlessly solutions-focused.

- You’ve got a knack for systems thinking: you enjoy untangling legacy frameworks and designing smarter, more intuitive solutions.
- You’re hands-on and strategic: comfortable running training days, mentoring a team, and mapping out long-term plans.

- You’ve worked in processing or open pit operations, and understand the realities of site-based training.
