About the Role
As Senior Geotechnical Engineer, you’ll play a pivotal role in managing geotechnical controls across a large-scale, dynamic mining environment. This is a rare opportunity to gain exposure to the full lifecycle of major open pit operations - finalising the current open pit mining stage and commencing a new cutback stage, while also supporting multiple satellite pits. An opportunity through cross pollination with underground geotechnical engineering is another possibility.
You’ll lead a small team of geotechnical professionals, ensuring systems and processes are effective, mentoring engineers and graduates, and driving innovation through proactive solutions. The role offers variety and provides challenges, from overseeing daily geotechnical tasks and monitoring systems to delivering short and mid-term projects that enhance safety and efficiency.
Key highlights:
- Exposure to large scale pit stage finalisation
- Developing a new cutback stage.
- Diverse geotechnical conditions: hard rock and oxide environments.
- Leadership scope with 3–4 direct reports and graduate development.
- Opportunities to work across open pit and underground operations.
- Community based culture with strong team spirit.
About You
You are a technically strong geotechnical professional who thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. You bring a proactive mindset, leadership capability, and a passion for mentoring and developing others. Your ability to anticipate challenges, innovate, and implement effective systems will set you apart.
What we’re looking for:
- Qualifications: Degree in Mining Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology, or Civil Engineering (geotechnical focus). Professional registration (RPEQ/RPEV) and AusIMM Chartered Professional (CP) status highly regarded.
- Experience: Minimum 7 years in geotechnical engineering, including at least 2 years in a senior capacity. Exposure to both open pit and underground environments is advantageous.
- Technical skills: Proficiency in geotechnical modelling and CAD software, Rocscience, and Microsoft Office. Strong understanding of mine planning, ground control, and risk management.
- Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead teams, mentor engineers, and manage performance objectives.
- Attributes: Self-starter, adaptable, collaborative, and committed to safety and continuous improvement.
