Our Cowal Gold Operation (CGO) is a cornerstone asset located near West Wyalong in central NSW with a leadership team that continually focus on embedding a values driven culture aligned with our company vision to create a premier, global gold company. Cowal has recently begun underground stoping and approvals for an extension to the existing open pits are currently underway, which extends the mine life well into the next decade.

 

 

About the role

 

Reporting to the Manager - Sustainability the purpose of the Superintendent – Risk and Improvement is to assist the Sustainability Manager as a technical expert, providing leadership and advice relating to the identification and control of business risks and the determination and maintenance of legislative compliance whilst fostering a culture of continual business improvement. 

 

 

Key responsibilities/ result areas in this role include:

 

  • Implementing and maintain CGO Compliance and Risk Framework and systems in alignment with Evolution Business Standards, Policies, and legislative requirements.
  • Managing Operations Risk Register, material/critical risk management plans, and critical control performance specifications, along with verification activities.
  • Providing professional advice and hands-on support to the Management team and site leaders for effective implementation, understanding, and compliance with risk management systems, processes, and tools.
  • Preparing risk management reports, including control effectiveness reports, for the CGO Risk Committee and Risk and Standards owners.
  • Maintaining the Legal Compliance Register, including the development, implementation, and maintenance of obligations register and associated internal audit scope and tools for legislative compliance.
  • Advising and assisting departments in developing quality assurance and compliance processes to strengthen controls and enhance detection and management of compliance risk.
  • Maintaining Enterprise Risk Management Systems by offering professional advice and hands-on support to ensure effective implementation, understanding, management, and compliance with the enterprise risk management and document management systems, processes, and tools.
  • Facilitating a culture of continuous improvement by leading the Management of Change program and collaborating with cross-functional teams for successful and sustainable change rollout. Additionally, facilitate the development and execution of cultural improvement programs/projects across operations as required.
  • Demonstrating behaviours aligned with Evolution Mining values.
  • Proactively identifying and addressing hazards, leading the team in recognizing at-risk activities and involving specialized expertise for requisite controls, encompassing safety, environmental, and operational considerations.
  • Championing Evolution Mining's Values and commitment to Safety, Environment, Inclusion and Diversity, and Emissions Reduction (Net Zero).

 

 

About you

 

To be considered you must possess a Tertiary Qualification in Health, Safety, or Risk. Qualifications in Business Improvement and Auditing, are desirable. The candidate should have experience in risk and compliance or a senior health and safety role within medium to large organizations, ideally in operational mining environments. Proficiency in Incident Investigation (ICAM), Lead Auditing, and a proven track record in change management principles are crucial. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in Continuous/Business Improvement methodologies and project delivery, reflecting a high level of strategic thinking, planning, and problem-solving ability. Effective communication and collaboration skills are essential for interacting with all levels of the organization and key stakeholders. The ability to manage personal work priorities efficiently, promote team collaboration, and deliver business results is imperative. The right candidate should also be an advocate for innovation and change, possess strong presentation skills, and be competent in using MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. You must also have the ability to influence people leaders and demonstrate the capability to coach and mentor the team and key stakeholders to achieve the role's key deliverables.
