Your Benefits

Flights or reimbursement of travel expenses are provided at the beginning and end of the program. Residential housing is provided and subsidized, and transport to site is arranged for you, and you will be fully equipped with all necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to ensure your safety and comfort on the job. Candidates who successfully complete the vacation program will be fast-tracked into our graduate program.
This is a 12-week residential program running from December to February, on a roster of 5 days on 2 days off and 4 days on 3 days off.

About the role
The Vacation Student - Geotechnical Engineering is a developmental position designed to build technical capabilities within the Integrated Planning team through field-based and analytical assignments. The role provides exposure to geotechnical risk management and slope stability practices. Each task is supervised by a senior geotechnical professional, aligning responsibilities with the student's academic background and development objectives.
Responsibilities include:
- Participating in site inspections and audits for observing and documenting geotechnical hazards
- Maintaining and updating the visual risk communication tools
- Supporting rock sampling and testing programs under supervision
- Contributing to back-analysing rockfalls and slope failures using site data
- Preparing reports and presentations on geotechnical observations and findings
- Engaging in safety training, toolbox talks, and ground awareness sessions with site teams
- Collecting data for geotechnical models, designing and analysing open pit and underground excavations, monitoring conditions, assessing risks, and collaborating with teams across Mining Engineering, Geology, Surveying, and TSF for producing safe, practical, and economic design
About you
The ideal candidate is currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree such as Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Geological Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mining Engineering or Geology or similar. Ideally you will have some experience with relevant software and systems through studies or placements. You should demonstrate strong problem-solving skills and a ability to communicate effectively across verbal, written, numerical, and graphical formats. You will be able to uphold high work standards, build strong relationships with peers and leaders, and work independently to meet personal and team goals. A valid manual driver’s licence and willingness to live and work remotely are essential for this role.
