Principal Geotechnical Engineer

The Principal Geotechnical Engineer is a technical subject-matter expert (SME) assisting the Group Head Geotechnical with all matters related to Open Pit & Underground Mining and the overarching standards, guidance, governance, and opportunity assessment for the geotechnical management of Evolution’s mining assets.

  • Enable the business to develop and deliver its strategic and tactical objectives
  • Identify and drive operational excellence, underpinned by disciplined technical deployment with sound economic analysis across the group
  • Assist with auditing processes around geotechnical controls, including ground management plans and critical controls
  • Location, Sydney preferred but flexible and will be required to travel to our sites.

About the role

The Principal Geotechnical Engineer will contribute to the development of new projects and provide guidance on required levels of Geotechnical test work and budget. This role will assist with mentoring and coaching for the development of geotechnical and mining teams across the group.

Key result areas for a role of this nature include:

  • Assist with the communication of standards, assurance, and governance with respect to geotechnical processes across our business.
  • Foster collaborative, productive relationships within the team and across the organisation with other teams.


About you

To be successful in this position you will have proven experience in both underground and open pit, preferably within the gold sector (hard rock at minimum).

It is also important that you have or can demonstrate:

  • Demonstrable industry experience communicating and developing geotechnical concepts and personnel.
  • Proven experience at group or in a consulting role across geotechnical accountability
  • Highly and variable skilled in numerical analysis
  • Minimum 15 years’ experience as a geotechnical engineer and supervisory role
  • Consulting experience.
