About the role

Reporting to the Technical Services Manager, the Geotechnical Superintendent leads the safe, disciplined and effective delivery of geotechnical services across the operation.

This is a key leadership role responsible for ensuring ground conditions are understood, risks are controlled, and designs are practical, aligned and executable. You will translate geotechnical strategy into clear direction for operations, supporting delivery of the Short Range Forecast (SRF) and Life of Mine (LOM) plan.

You will set the standard for ground control and geotechnical performance across site. A core focus of the role is building capability within your team, strengthening technical discipline, and embedding a proactive risk culture where geotechnical considerations are part of everyday decision making.

You will maintain a strong site presence, working closely with Mining, Geology and Technical Services to ensure plans are delivered safely, consistently and to a high standard.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead from the front to build and sustain a strong geotechnical safety culture, ensuring hazards are identified, assessed and controlled effectively.
  • Maintain a visible underground and site presence, proactively monitoring ground conditions, coaching teams and reinforcing safe ground management practices.
  • Provide technical oversight and assurance of geotechnical designs including ground support, seismic management and excavation stability.
  • Deliver geotechnical inputs to the Short Range Forecast (SRF) and Life of Mine (LOM) plans, ensuring designs are practical, optimised and aligned with operational requirements.
  • Oversee ground control management plans (GCMP) and ensure compliance with site standards and regulatory obligations.
  • Take ownership of geotechnical risk assessments and incident investigations, ensuring outcomes drive meaningful and sustainable improvement.
  • Work closely with Mining, Geology and Technical Services teams to ensure alignment between design, sequencing and execution.
  • Develop and mentor geotechnical engineers, strengthening technical capability and leadership within the team.
  • Drive continuous improvement in monitoring systems, data analysis and reporting to support proactive decision making.
  • Identify and remove systemic constraints impacting ground control, safety and operational performance.
  • Maintain clear, timely communication of geotechnical risks, performance and recommendations across site leadership.
