About the role

Reporting to the Underground Manager, the Underground Mining Superintendent is accountable for the safe, efficient and cost‑effective delivery of underground mining production in alignment with the Short Range Forecast (SRF), budget, and Evolution’s safety and operational standards. You will translate strategy into executable plans, ensuring underground activities are planned, resourced and delivered safely, while developing the leadership capability of Supervisors and the broader crew.

You will remove systemic roadblocks, provide strong safety leadership, and drive performance outcomes across development, production and services to achieve tonnes, metres and compliance targets.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Champion a high‑performance safety culture, ensuring full compliance with site and statutory requirements.
  • Proactively identify and control hazards, supported by regular underground engagement and visible safety leadership. 
  • Lead incident investigations and drive lasting corrective actions. 
  • Deliver the Short Range Forecast (SRF) and achieve production targets safely and efficiently. 
  • Oversee development, production, ground support, paste fill and services to ensure seamless operational execution. 
  • Optimise productivity through improved cycle times, equipment performance and effective resource allocation. 
  • Partner with Technical Services, Geology and Geotechnical teams to deliver practical, executable short‑term plans. 
  • Build leadership capability by coaching and developing Supervisors while managing workforce planning and performance. 
  • Drive continuous improvement by removing operational barriers and enhancing safety, cost and productivity outcomes. 
  • Provide clear, timely reporting and maintain strong communication across operational and support teams.

 

About you

You are an experienced underground mining leader with a strong operational mindset and the ability to drive safe, efficient and disciplined execution. Your experience enables you to make informed decisions, influence outcomes and develop the capability of your team. You build culture through your leadership — balancing accountability with coaching, clarity and support.

  • 10+ years’ mining experience, including 5+ years in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Underground Supervisor’s Certificate (required). 
  • First Class Mine Manager’s Certificate — or working towards it (highly regarded). 
  • Extensive operational experience in underground mining, with strong knowledge of legislation and safety systems. 
  • Demonstrated success leading multidisciplinary underground teams. 
  • Strong capability in planning, cost management and operational execution. 
  • Competence in Pronto, Word and Excel; confident in coaching, feedback and team development. 
  • C-Class Manual Driver’s Licence.
