The Principal Geologist - Mineral Resources & Orebody Knowledge role serves as the technical subject-matter expert in Geology and Orebody Knowledge, supporting the Group Manager Technical Services in maintaining high standards, governance, and opportunity assessments across Evolution’s mining assets..
This role serves as the technical subject-matter expert (SME) in Geology and Orebody Knowledge, providing vital support to the Group Manager of Technical Services. It is instrumental in shaping and upholding standards, governance, and opportunity assessments across Evolution’s mining assets. The role ensures that strategic and tactical objectives are met by driving operational excellence through disciplined technical deployment and sound economic analysis. By collaborating with site teams and leadership, this role enhances orebody understanding, strengthens geological processes, and contributes to sustainable and efficient mining operations.
Key Responsibilities are:
- Drive a deeper understanding of orebody knowledge across the business by improving modelling techniques and ensuring that geological data is effectively integrated into resource estimation, mine design, planning, and process optimisation. Strengthening this knowledge base enables better decision-making and enhances the value of Evolution’s mining assets.
- Provide expert technical guidance to site personnel, supporting the development of best-practice geological systems and processes. This includes assisting with geometallurgical test work, orebody and waste characterisation studies, and ensuring that all geological investigations meet high technical standards.
- Foster strong relationships with site teams and external contractors to ensure geological, geometallurgical, and analytical data collection and interpretation are conducted to a high standard. Collaborate with teams to identify areas for improvement and implement strategies that enhance operational efficiency and accuracy.
- Conduct technical reviews and internal audit programs to maintain high governance standards. Support the development of corporate governance systems to ensure the secure collection, management, and storage of key geoscience information, ensuring that data integrity is maintained across all operations.
- Play an active role in innovation and business development by evaluating and implementing new transformational technologies that enhance orebody knowledge. Assist in due diligence activities, support the assessment of new projects, and contribute to the strategic direction of Evolution’s mining operations.
This role requires a proactive, detail-oriented, and safety-conscious approach, ensuring that all geological practices align with health, safety, and security standards. A strong commitment to Evolution Mining’s values is essential, fostering collaboration, continuous improvement, and responsible mining practices. By working closely with site leadership teams and group functions, this role contributes to the long-term success and sustainability of the business, driving best practices that enhance efficiency, accuracy, and operational performance.
About you
Success in this role requires a combination of strong technical expertise, practical experience, and the ability to apply advanced geological and mineralogical knowledge to real-world mining operations. A deep understanding of deposit characterization, geometallurgy, and processing workflows is essential, along with the ability to drive continuous improvements and support the implementation of new technologies. The ideal candidate will have a proactive, hands-on approach, with a passion for delivering results, optimizing processes, and contributing to the overall efficiency and success of Evolution’s mining operations.
- A degree in Geology, Mineralogy, and/or Metallurgy, combined with at least 10 years of relevant experience, ideally within gold operations. Advanced technical knowledge in geology and mineralogy, with the ability to conduct complex studies and apply findings to improve operational outcomes.
- Strong expertise in deposit characterization and geometallurgical modelling, using industry-standard software tools to enhance orebody understanding. Skilled in statistical and spatial analysis of geological and geometallurgical data to support decision-making and operational planning.
- Hands-on experience in mineralogy, with a practical approach to reconciliation reporting, material tracking, and process optimization across the mine and processing plant. Previous experience in technical auditing and training, ensuring best practices are upheld across teams.
- Excellent technical report writing, communication, and influencing skills, with the ability to clearly present complex geological and metallurgical information to a wide range of stakeholders. Skilled in project management, planning, scheduling, and budgeting to support operational success.
- Proficiency in Microsoft software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project) and relevant 3D modelling software to support geological and geometallurgical analysis.
