Engineer - Geotechnical

The Geotechnical Engineer role is to provide geotechnical designs, strategic planning and monitoring to ensure the safe and sustainable extraction of resources at our Mt Rawdon Operation. This opportunity will allow you to develop others and yourself.

About the role

The Geotechnical Engineer role offers an opportunity to provide strategic input to the sustainable operation of Mount Rawdon open pit mine and be involved with the wider group geotechnical team. This includes providing geotechnical recommendations to assist operations in proactively managing risks and hazards associated with the mine. The role offers the opportunity for an up and coming Geotech Engineer who wishes to further their career in both open pit and tailings dam management. This includes having the opportunity to work in a small dynamic team that offers great development opportunities as part of a larger extremely successful organization.

Key performance indicators for this role include:

  • Ensure compliance with the relevant mining act and regulations with respect to managing geotechnical risks.
  • Promoting Evolutions values of Safety, Respect, Accountability and Excellence
  • Carrying out geotechnical mapping and modeling
  • Providing  geotechnical recommendations and feedback to the operations team.
  • Conducting Incident investigations and risk assessments
  • Conducting in pit and Tailings dam slope stability monitoring and analysis through systems such as inSar and IDS
  • Design, implement and review Quality control / quality assurance specifications
  • Develop internal auditing tools as required


About our Operation

Our Mt Rawdon gold operation is an open pit mine located 75km south west of Bundaberg in Queensland. Being a residential mine, our local employees go home every night, with many living in the communities of Mt Perry and Gin Gin.

About you

As a Geotechnical Engineer you will have a tertiary qualification in Mining/Geoscience/Civil with major in Geomechanics or equivalent. Masters in Geomechanics will be viewed as favourable. It is also important that you have/ can demonstrate:   

  • Degree qualified in geotechnical engineering or engineering geology or equivalent;
  •  Experience in open pit geotechnical engineering;
  • Solid grasp of relevant Australian legislation & mining regulations
  • High proficiency with 2D or 3D geotechnical analysis software
  • Experience with monitoring systems and ability to interpret the data
