About the role
Reporting to the Mechanical Team Leader, the Mechanical Technician will carry out mechanical maintenance and fabrication work on fixed plant equipment across UG and OPD departments. This includes supporting shutdowns, rebuilds, and installations with a focus on boiler making and welding.
Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting preventative maintenance and inspections on crushers, conveyors, pumps, SAG and Ball Mills, and other fixed plant equipment
- Performing mechanical repairs during planned shutdowns and rebuilds, including cyclone and crusher rebuilds
- Fabricating and installing components for shutdown preparation and execution
- Raising and closing work orders in SAP and creating notifications for defect elimination
- Coordinating resources and time slots for maintenance tasks and equipment modifications
- Supervising contractors during shutdowns and ensuring safety compliance
- Providing technical input for standard jobs and equipment upgrades
- Supporting apprentices and contributing to team mentoring and development
About you
The ideal candidate will hold a mechanical trade qualification and have experience in mining or heavy industry. You should be confident using SAP for work orders and notifications and hold a forklift ticket (essential) and ideally a crane ticket. You must have basic computer literacy, strong communication skills, and a proactive approach to safety and teamwork. Experience with fabrication, welding, and shutdown preparation is highly regarded. You should also work well in a team environment and be motivated to contribute to plant reliability and continuous improvement.
