About the role
Reporting to the Senior Plant Metallurgist, the Process Control Metallurgist is a specialist role within the Plant Metallurgy team at Northparkes. The position is responsible for the process control strategies, advanced control systems, production management systems and alarm management that support safe, stable and efficient operation of the ore processing plant. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys combining metallurgy, control systems and data to drive real, measurable improvements.
Key responsibilities include:
- Working closely with operations, control systems and IT
- Monitoring and improving existing control strategies and loops
- Developing and implementing new control solutions to help deliver or exceed production targets
- Supporting and enhancing, AVEVA PI and related data systems, including reporting and visualisation
- Leading alarm management and supporting troubleshooting of process control issues
- Coordinating trials of new technology and instrumentation within the plant to support the technology roadmap
About you
You will be a degree-qualified Metallurgist, Chemical Engineer, or Mineral Processing Engineer with a strong passion for process control, data, and optimisation. You will bring experience in process control and engineering, or as a Plant Metallurgist with significant exposure to control systems, logic, and loop tuning. Your background will include working with production management and data historian systems such as AVEVA PI, PI Vision, or Power BI, enabling you to turn complex data into practical, actionable insights. With strong analytical skills and well-developed communication abilities, you will confidently collaborate across both operational and technical teams. Experience in a copper concentrator and familiarity with advanced process control tools like Metso OCS-4D will be highly regarded, though capability and motivation to grow remain the key attributes.
