The roster is (38 hr week with option for 9 Day compressed fortnight) based residentially in the Parkes region of NSW

About the role

The Superintendent of Health, Safety, Emergency Management, and Risk will be responsible for leading the development, implementation, and ongoing management of health, safety, emergency response, and risk management strategies at Northparkes. This role requires a dynamic leader to champion a Zero Harm culture by integrating health, safety, and risk management principles into every aspect of site operations. The Superintendent will support and guide the Health and Safety Representative Committee, statutory function holders, and other stakeholders to ensure safe working conditions and regulatory compliance. Additionally, the role will oversee the continuous improvement of safety programs, emergency preparedness, and risk mitigation strategies, while ensuring effective response to incidents and emergencies.

 

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Champion and lead the integration of a proactive, safety-first culture across the site, ensuring that risk management and safety become intrinsic to the Northparkes daily operations.
  • Build strong relationships with key stakeholders, including the Health and Safety Representative Committee, statutory function holders, contractors, and site leadership, ensuring open communication and engagement in safety initiatives.
  • Oversee the annual Health and Wellness Program, champion the Northparkes Operations Safety Management System, and develop and implement robust emergency management systems to ensure site safety, employee well-being, and effective emergency preparedness.
  • Manage site security requirements and arrangements, and act as the key contact for coordinating site visits from the Resources Regulator, ensuring compliance and smooth operations during inspections.
  • Serve as a role model for safety leadership, consistently promoting safety as a core value and ensuring alignment with business objectives.

 

About you

  • A strong understanding of relevant health, safety, and environmental legislation, with the ability to ensure compliance and implement best practices across all operations.
  • Significant operational experience within the mining or related industries, with a deep understanding of industry-specific safety challenges and risk management requirements.
  • Extensive experience in the use, development, and maintenance of HSE management systems, ensuring effective risk mitigation and continuous improvement of safety standards.
  • Training and experience in incident investigation (with ICAM training highly regarded), coupled with the ability to develop, implement, and manage multi-disciplinary team plans and budgets.
  • A manual driver’s license is preferred to support operational activities on-site.
  • A degree in Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) or a similar field, providing a solid foundation for managing health, safety, and risk management initiatives.
