About the role

The Apprentice HD Mechanic offers the opportunity to learn the trade and progressively advance to become a qualified Heavy Duty Mechanic. You will gain hands on experience on scheduled and breakdown maintenance work to ensure the reliability and availability of our underground mobile fleet.

The roster will be 7 days on, 7 days off – 12 hour shifts and is a local residential role.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Apply what you have learned under the direction of the Journeyman, whilst complying with all safety procedures
• Ask questions that will help you become ready to safely perform the assigned tasks
• Give suggestions regarding job-related work
• Report any unsafe conditions to your supervisor
• Work in a healthy environment with full support, cooperation and commitment to satisfy our operation’s goal of being accident-free
• Comply with federal and provincial acts, regulations, and legal requirements
• Perform other duties as assigned.

About you

As the Apprentice HD Mechanic, you will have a Secondary School Graduation Diploma. A College certificate in a technical field, or previous apprentice experience is ideal but not essential.

It is also important that you have/can demonstrate:

• Previous employment involving hands-on work in a heavy industrial setting
• Must be willing and able to attend Trade School for 8 to 10 weeks at a time out of town and successfully complete each module
• Ability to read and understand drawings and schematics
• Strong learning agility, mathematics, measurement and assembly skills
• Actively involved in the processes and disciplines of the mechanic trade
• Eagerness to apply new skills and knowledge
• Competent written communication skills and ability to comprehend details as outlined on written work requests
• Strong attention to detail
• Good numeric and analytical ability
• Basic computer skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with others
• Flexible, and willing to work on a rotational shiftwork basis.
