About the role
As the Graduate Mechanical Engineer the purpose of the role is to develop technical skills in a variety of roles within the maintenance department.
The Graduate Mechanical Engineer will rotate through various roles including but not limited to: production administration (reporting and analysis), production engineering, drill & blast, short term planning and mine design.You will be required to liaise and build working relationships with the Geology, Processing and Mining Departments to facilitate compliance to short term schedules and identify opportunities for operational and technical improvements. Engineers on the graduate program will also gain practical experience in both open pit and underground mining operations
This two-year Graduate Program is designed to develop personal, technical and commercial skills. Graduates will be given exposure to different areas of the mine, and the corporate office to provide them with a whole of business perspective. After a successful completion of the program, our goal is to place students in full-time permanent position.

The key result areas in this role include:
- Support capital projects within the maintenance department
- Review KPIs relating to equipment performance and planning/scheduling effectiveness to determine areas of opportunity
- Participate in the end-to-end processes with maintenance planning, scheduling and execution of regularly occurring tasks
- Participate in shutdown/overhaul planning and scheduling
- Participate in maintenance activities with trades personnel to obtain cross functional exposure
- Support equipment redesign to improve reliability
- Onboard new equipment including appropriate tasks, frequencies and spares
- Revise maintenance tasks based on machine performance
- Understand the life cycle cost of critical equipment and help facilitate suggested improvements to have a positive effect on the total cost of ownership
- Other duties assigned
About you
As the Graduate Mechanical Engineer student, you must have graduated within the last three years from a Post Secondary Education in a relevant Engineering Degree. It is also important that you have/ can demonstrate:
- Ability to read and comprehend technical language, operations manuals and drawings
- Excellent understanding of preventative maintenance, in particular in a mechanical discipline
- Experience in maintenance, preferably in a processing or fixed plant industry
- Show initiative and maturity to analyze and solve problems
- Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills
- Understanding and applying work standards
- Working constructively with people and building professional relationships
- Ability to prioritise and schedule work
- Confident verbal communication and presentation skills
- Excellent written communication skills
- Competent user of MS Office tools
