About the role

The purpose of the Occupational Health Technician, is to provide first aid services, workplace and health surveillance, health and wellness promotion activities, workplace rehabilitation, and occupational health hazards and risk control at Evolution Mining Red Lake Operation

 

Key result areas in this role include:

  • Administer first aid to employees and contractors. 
  • Develop and provide health promotion activities. 
  • Complete basic health surveillance (blood pressure, pulse, height, weight, BMI, vision screening, urinalysis). 
  • Conduct drug and alcohol testing. 
  • Complete audiograms and spirometry. 
  • Complete biological and designated substance monitoring. 
  • Complete workplace health hazard audits. 
  • Teach First Aid & CPR, and Mental Health First Aid courses on site. 
  • Complete quantitative respiratory fit tests. 
  • Complete short- and long-term disability and WSIB applications. 
  • Keep confidential records and maintain medical records and filing system. 
  • Inventory control. 
  • Other related duties as trained and assigned. 

 

About you

  • As an Occupational Health Technician, you will have a high school diploma and related occupational and industrial health training/formal education. 
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), HCP or preferred Advanced Medical First Responder 
  • Certified First Aid / Advanced First Aid / Mental Health First Aid Instructor 
  • Valid Class G driver’s license without restrictions. Must provide driver’s abstract. Non-negotiable. 
  • Breath Alcohol Technician (BAT) preferred. 
  • Certified Specimen Collector (urine and oral fluid) preferred. 
  • Audiometric certification from a certified Ontario provider preferred. 
  • Spirometry certification from a certified Ontario provider preferred. 
  • Quantitative and qualitative respirator fit test training. 
  • Minimum of 6-12 months of experience in industrial health and safety with preference to experience in underground gold mining, or equivalent experience in Key Result Areas. 

 

It is also important that you have/ can demonstrate:         

  • Biological and medical surveillance specific to designated substances and industry-relevant needs. 
  • Experience in disability claims initiation and criteria. 
  • Emergency first aid treatment experience. 
  • Solid background in occupational health and industry-relevant needs 
  • Competent in various testing procedures, equipment, and methods (audiometrics, oral fluid drug & breath alcohol sample collection, vision screening, respirator fit testing, ergonomics). 
  • Very familiar with Occupational Health and Safety Act, Ontario Regulations for Mines and Mining Plants, Canadian Human Rights legislation. 
  • Excellent verbal, and interpersonal skills and comfortable working with employees at all levels of the organization. 
  • Excellent technical writing skills and literacy. 
  • Proficient documentation ability with strict attention to detail. 
  • Excellent organizational, time management and planning capabilities. 
  • Effective decision-making and problem-solving abilities. 
  • Comfortable public speaking to large groups. 
  • Competent in Microsoft Office suite. 
  • Research and analytical skills.
