About the role

As the Pastefill Engineer, you will be responsible for providing engineering services for the safe, productive, and cost effective operations of the Pastefill system to the underground workings.

Key Result Areas in this role include:

• Liaise with Planners, Paste Plant operators, and Underground Construction crews to ensure the delivery of Paste fill to the underground workings.
• Designs and establish suitable parameters (% binder, slump, tph, etc) for pouring paste ensuring efficiency and strength requirements are met.
• Conducts Mill and UG visits to maintain quality control of backfill, stope prep, fences, and piping.
• Provide engineering solutions to the paste fill to have standard quality and efficient delivery of paste to the underground stopes.
• Assist in meeting production forecasts and budgets.
• Monitors delivered paste fill into the stopes are of correct engineering specifications.
• Establish and maintain daily, monthly, and yearly records of actual paste fill pours.
• Provides and establish weekly, monthly, and yearly backfill reports.
• Provide up to date engineered drawings and procedures required for underground distribution system and fence construction.
• Designs and updates pressure flow models to indicate operating pressures and ensure safe operation. 
• Ensures Paste fill Engineering Package has all the correct and necessary information.

About you

As the Pastefill Engineer, you will need to have an    Engineering or Technical Degree in Mining, Civil, Mechanical, or Geological and have at least 2 years of experience in Pastefill delivery to an active underground mine, exposure to an underground mining environment and have working knowledge of mining methods and cycles.

In addition, you must be able to demonstrate:

• A safety leader that that maintains safe work practices
• Engineering understanding of cementitious materials and fluid dynamics.
• Knowledgeable in Pastefill QA/QC requirements and implementing the backfill management plan
• Familiar with Rock Mechanics / Ground Control
• Planning / scheduling capabilities.
• Knowledgeable in mining software(s).
• Proficient the Microsoft office suite.
• Be able to communicate new ideas and procedures to the construction Supervisors and crews.
• Investigate paste fill related incidents and provide recommendations.
• Assist Safety and Training department with training packages.
• Comply with Federal and Provincial acts and regulations, and legal requirements.
• Adherence to relevant corporate policies and procedures

• Keep close communication with Mine Planners and Operators in order to establish and follow the paste fill budget and forecasts.
• Keep track of all paste fill operations by maintaining a paste fill database of actual pours. Ensures daily paste plant data are correctly reported and encoded.
• Keep up to date as-builts of all the paste fill schematics, level plans, and the flow model.
• Give feedback to the construction Supervisors of any inspected substandard jobs done that needs to be rectified.
• Assists the construction Supervisors in acquiring the proper tools and materials necessary to complete their work safely and efficiently.
• Analyse and optimise backfill characteristics such as UCS strengths, densities, and slump.
• Conducts underground observation on fence construction, pastefill piping, and paste pouring to be able to come up with process improvements.
• Review, update, and improve all the procedures and policies involving paste fill operations.
• Be involved in any paste fill projects that include paste fill expansion and upgrading of the Paste fill System.
• As required, train underground backfill operators (slump tests, pour practices, piping etc).
