About the role

The Principal Project Engineer role offers the opportunity to be responsible for overseeing all projects and medium term design critical for delivery of the 3 year plan at Evolution Mining Red Lake Gold Operations. This role is a 5/2/4/3 schedule on 9 hour shifts. You will be required to live locally in Red Lake as this is a residential role with no camp or fly in fly out availability. 

 

Key result areas in this role include:

  • Ensure that technical support provided to operational teams considers requirements of applicable Work Health and Safety Legislation, Canadian Standards and Environmental Standards/Procedures and other site regulations.
  • Actively contribute to a Zero Incident culture throughout the mine via Visible Felt Leadership to help promote safe working conditions and practices.
  • Ensure the efficient use of in-house processes for identifying, reporting and managing hazards and incidents and proactively take steps to eliminate risk-taking behaviours or actions.
  • Commit to maintaining health, safety and security standards and principles, both within own workplace and through the identification of potential risks throughout the Evolution Group.
  • Mentor, coach and lead a team of engineers and technical staff to enhance their development and success through setting clear accountabilities and deliverables for direct reports and informal regular interaction, informal reviews and performance appraisals.
  • Lead the underground operations water management project, supporting operational teams to coordinate their work and provide technical guidance on key infrastructure requirements
  • Oversee major ventilation upgrades through providing technical oversight to the ventilation team and supporting the projects team through provision of plans and project schedules
  • Support the delivery of new mining areas as per the three-year plan through design and documentation of all capital infrastructure including egress, refuge, power, water management infrastructure and capital development
  • Actively participate in the development of mining schedules across the weekly through to three year time horizon  
  • Provide technical support for operational procedures and risk management processes
  • Lead new technology and business improvement projects

 

About you

As the Principal Project Engineer, you will have a Bachelor of Mine Engineering with active P’Eng designation (or ability to obtain).

 

It is also important that you have/ can demonstrate:        

  • Demonstrated work experience in an underground hard rock environment with experience in a similar role
  • Strong technical knowledge and mining background in planning, scheduling, ventilation, mine infrastructure and drill and blast
  • Experience with mine water management
  • Demonstrated high level of competence with mine planning software
  • Demonstrated project management skills
  • Strong leadership skills including the ability to support, coach and mentor staff
  • Ability to implement and communicate plans to ensure plans and targets are met
  • High level of self-discipline to deliver outcomes
  • Leadership and project management competencies: to support site operations towards desired objectives, standards and outcomes
  • Results orientated and maintaining direction: to ensure focus on important deliverables and drive achievement of functional as well as personal job objectives
  • Good communication and presentation skills, able to effectively communicate complex ideas to non-engineering experts
  • Able to build relationships across functions and operations
  • High professional standards
  • Good analytical skills and attentive to detail
  • Organised, highly efficient and proactive
  • Cultural sensitivity
  • Competent user of Deswik Suite, Pronto, Ventsim and Pumpsim
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications (MS Project, excel)
  • Provide an atmosphere of continuous improvement (costs and safety)
  • Ability to supervise technical staff and contractor’s work
  • Strong problem-solving capabilities for driving successful mine design and project, planning, scheduling, financial evaluations and cost analysis
