About the role

The Superintendent Environmental role offers an exceptional opportunity to implement and monitor environmental management plans and processes to ensure compliance with environmental obligations. You will act as the primary contact for environmental matters associated with daily operational activities and provide support to the department manager with regulatory approvals and permitting processes. Additionally, you will provide supervision, coaching, and performance management to a team of Environmental professionals.

 

The position will be on a 5 day on/2 day off /4 day on /3day off (9.5 – hour day) roster and will be based residentially in Red Lake, Ontario with NO FIFO eligibility.  We offer a competitive salary, bonus structure and future growth. A housing taxable benefit will be provided and relocation support is available.

 

Key result areas in this role include:

  • Provides subject matter advice, environmental services, and coaching on the application of environmental policy and standards on site
  • Monitors federal and provincial legislation for relevant changes and risks
  • Champions the development and implementation of the environment management system and governance programs to ensure the operation maintains compliance with applicable environmental obligations and minimises environmental harm and risk
  • Oversees the environmental monitoring and reporting program
  • Oversees the development of the environmental management plans and strategies and oversees the implementation of associated programs and activities
  • Assists with the annual strategic and tactical planning for the environmental function, facilitating the development and implementation of performance metrics, work programs, and operating and capital budgets
  • Promotes and enhances the company’s reputation and relationship with the Government regulators, First Nation communities and other stakeholders through positive consultation and proactive engagement
  • Supervises and coaches’ direct reports providing career development, planning and pathways
  • Assist with approvals, permits and feasibility studies as required

 

About you

As the Superintendent Environmental, you will have a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, or other relevant scientific disciplines.

 

It is also important that you have/ can demonstrate:   

  • A Valid G Driver’s License and access to a vehicle
  • Significant experience in a mine site environmental role
  • Substantial practical environmental and stakeholder experience in a mining, or other industry environment
  • Knowledge of environmental approvals requirements and strategies
  • Working knowledge of relevant environmental legislation, including experience, and understanding of the federal and provincial permitting process
  • Experience in establishing, implementing, and managing Environmental Management Systems (EMS) and frameworks, standards, audits, and systems
  • Prior demonstrated experience in managing people
  • Experience managing departmental budgets
  • Mine rehabilitation and closure planning experience
  • Enthusiasm, positive attitude, and commitment to Evolution’s values
