About the role

The Superintendent Planning (Engineering) role offers the opportunity to lead and engage a team of professionals in providing technical support including strategic mine design and planning, projects management, fleet management and strategy for purposes of ensuring safe and efficient mine operations.

 

Key result areas in this role include:

  • Ensure that technical support provided to operational teams considers requirements of applicable Work Health and Safety Legislation, Canadian Standards and Environmental Standards/Procedures and other site regulations
  • Ensure the development, implementation and maintenance of design and planning standards and processes
  • Actively contribute to a Zero Incident culture throughout the mine via Visible Felt Leadership to help promote safe working conditions and practices
  • Ensure the efficient use of in-house processes for identifying, reporting and managing hazards and incidents and proactively take steps to eliminate risk-taking behaviours or actions
  • Commit to maintaining health, safety and security standards and principles, both within own workplace and through the identification of potential risks throughout the Evolution Group
  • Mentor, coach and lead a team of engineers and technical staff to enhance their development and success through setting clear accountabilities and deliverables for direct reports, regular interaction, informal reviews and performance appraisals
  • Actively manage the preparation of all mine plans with consideration given to risk (safety, business, operational), profitability and quality product
  • Provide short and long term guidance on geotechnical, drilling and blasting parameters, survey, fleet management and compile this information to create accurate mine planning, scheduling and design requirements
  • Develop and review mine plans (physicals and costs) including short range forecasts, budget and 3 year planning cycle
  • Responsible for developing and maintain a robust planning standard
  • Define and optimise mine planning scenarios to maximise business opportunities including consideration of geology, processing and mine maintenance opportunities
  • Review and deliver timely and accurate capital and operating budgets, regular forecasts and accruals used for effective cost management on a daily, monthly and annual basis
  • Carry out month-end reporting and variance analysis on actual vrs forecast information
  • Foster a cohesive network between technical and operational personnel

 

About you

As the Superintendent Planning, you will have a Bachelor of Mine Engineering with active P’Eng designation (or ability to obtain).

 

It is also important that you have/ can demonstrate:        

  • A Minimum of 10 years’ experience in an underground and open pit mining environment with demonstrated experience in a similar role
  • Strong technical knowledge and mining background in planning, scheduling and drill and blast in both UG and OP environments
  • Demonstrated high level of competence with mine planning software
  • High degree of commercial acumen with previous experience in developing budgets to meet production and service targets
  • Strong leadership skills including the ability to support, coach and mentor staff
  • Ability to implement and communicate plans to ensure plans and targets are met
  • High level of self-discipline to deliver outcomes
  • Leadership and management competencies: to lead the Mine Planning function at Site and manage staff towards the desired objectives, standards and outcomes
  • Results orientated and maintaining direction: to ensure focus on important deliverables and drive achievement of functional as well as personal job objectives
  • Good communication and presentation skills, able to effectively communicate complex ideas to non-engineering experts
  • Able to build relationships across functions and operations
  • High professional standards
  • Good analytical skills and attentive to detail
  • Organised, highly efficient and proactive
  • Cultural sensitivity
  • Planning: to be able to anticipate future trends, probabilities and interpret consequences; to be able to execute long range planning and logistical organisation
  • Advanced user of planning and mine software packages
  • Competent user of Deswik,  Pronto and MS Office tools
