About the role
The Team Lead – ERO is a new role, which offers an exceptional opportunity to ensure RLO maintains an effective emergency response capability for underground and surface operations through effective planning, training, equipment readiness, emergency exercises and continuous improvement. The position also provides operational oversight of site security activities and supports emergency response and incident management when required.
We offer a competitive salary, bonus structure and future growth. The compensation range for this role is $110,000 to $146,400 CAD.
Key result areas in this role include:
Emergency Response Leadership
- Lead and supervise Emergency Response Officers and coordinate RLO underground and surface ERTs.
- Maintain emergency response readiness and ensure appropriate personnel, equipment and capabilities are available.
- Coordinate emergency response activities during incidents and support the site emergency management/incident command structure.
- Maintain effective relationships with Ontario Mine Rescue and local emergency response agencies.
Emergency Planning and Preparedness
- Develop, maintain and periodically review RLO emergency response plans, procedures, SWIs, TARPs and risk assessments.
- Coordinate site-specific rescue plans, including confined space and other specialized rescue requirements.
- Ensure emergency plans reflect current site hazards, operations and regulatory requirements.
Training and Competency
- Coordinate ERT recruitment, onboarding, training and competency requirements.
- Develop and maintain an annual ERT training and exercise program.
- Deliver and coordinate practical, scenario-based emergency response training.
- Maintain accurate records of ERT training, qualifications and competencies.
- Coach and develop Emergency Response Officers and ERT members.
Emergency Drills and Continuous Improvement
- Plan and execute emergency response drills and exercises for underground and surface operations.
- Evaluate performance, identify gaps and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
- Incorporate lessons learned from incidents, drills and industry events into emergency response systems.
Emergency Equipment and Infrastructure
- Coordinate inspection, testing, maintenance and readiness of emergency response equipment and infrastructure.
- Ensure critical emergency equipment, refuge facilities, escape routes, communications and rescue equipment are available and fit for purpose.
- Identify deficiencies and ensure corrective actions are completed.
Security
- Provide operational oversight of the RLO Security Team and security procedures.
- Coordinate site access control, gatehouse activities and visitor/contractor access.
- Support the protection of employees, contractors, visitors, assets and infrastructure.
- Coordinate response to security incidents and support security investigations as required.
Incident Response and Assurance
- Respond to emergencies and significant incidents as required.
- Support incident investigations, emergency debriefs and development of corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate records and reporting for inspections, training, drills, equipment and emergency response activities.
- Support audits, inspections and regulatory reviews.
Compliance and Safety Leadership
- Ensure emergency response and security activities comply with applicable Ontario legislation, regulations, Evolution Mining Group standards and RLO procedures.
- Demonstrate visible safety leadership and promote a proactive safety culture.
- Participate in risk assessments and operational planning related to emergency response and security.
- Exercise appropriate stop-work authority where unacceptable risks are identified.
General Responsibilities
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive company, employee, security and incident information.

About you
As an ERO Team Lead, you will have post-secondary education in Emergency Management, Occupational Health and Safety, Emergency Services, Training, Mining or related discipline, or equivalent mining and emergency response experience.
You will have 8–10 years of mining industry experience, preferably in underground hard-rock mining and a minimum of 5 years of emergency response/ERT experience. It is also important that you have/ can demonstrate:
- Strong emergency response, rescue and underground mining knowledge.
- Effective leadership, supervision, coaching and team development.
- Ability to make sound decisions and lead effectively under pressure.
- Strong planning, organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication.
- Strong knowledge of Ontario occupational health and safety and mining requirements.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and coordinate internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong commitment to safety, accountability, continuous improvement and Evolution Mining's values.
