This role will work a 5/2 roster from the Sydney office with 2 days WFH option available

About the Role

 

As the Data Governance Lead, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and embedding Evolution Mining’s data governance framework across the organisation. Reporting to the Group Manager – Enterprise Data & Analytics, you’ll be responsible for ensuring data is trusted, well-managed, and effectively used to support business decisions.

 

This role is both strategic and operational. You’ll design and implement governance policies, establish ownership and stewardship structures, and lead the rollout of tools and processes such as data catalogues and quality rules. You’ll work closely with stakeholders across corporate and site teams to drive adoption, build capability, and foster a culture of accountability and data fluency.

 

Key focus areas include:

 

  • Delivering a fit-for-purpose governance framework
  • Driving stakeholder engagement and communication
  • Overseeing data quality and compliance
  • Building governance capability and culture

 

Success in this role will be measured by the adoption of governance practices, improvements in data quality, stakeholder engagement, and the integration of governance into business decision-making.

 

About You

 

You are a strategic yet hands-on data governance professional with a passion for turning principles into practice. With a strong foundation in data management disciplines—such as metadata, data quality, and master data—you bring a pragmatic approach to embedding governance across complex environments. You’ve successfully implemented governance frameworks in medium-to-large organisations and are confident navigating both corporate IT and operational technology landscapes.

 

To succeed in this role, you’ll bring the following ten things to this role:

 

  1. Proven experience implementing data governance frameworks in medium-to-large organisations
  2. Strong stakeholder engagement skills across all levels, including executive leadership
  3. Excellent communication abilities – you can translate technical concepts into business value
  4. Hands-on experience with data governance tools (e.g., Kada, Alation) and practices
  5. Deep understanding of data management disciplines including metadata, data quality, and master data management
  6. Familiarity with governance frameworks such as DAMA DMBoK and maturity models
  7. Technical expertise in data engineering, modelling, and integration technologies
  8. Ability to influence and collaborate across diverse teams with competing priorities
  9. Strong analytical skills to address complex data challenges
  10. A passion for capability building – mentoring data stewards and fostering a data-aware culture
