About the role
This role reports to the Senior Geotechnical Superintendent and offers a unique opportunity for a Graduate Geotechnical to gain hands-on experience in geotechnical data collection, analysis, and operational planning at Evolution. The successful candidate will play a key role in identifying and managing geotechnical risks while ensuring compliance with mining regulations. By working closely with mine planners, technical teams, and site personnel, they will contribute to safe and efficient mining operations through slope design optimization, hazard assessment, and data-driven decision-making.
Key responsibilities
- Assist in conducting geotechnical audits and inspections to ensure compliance with safety regulations and best practices.
- Support the collection, analysis, and interpretation of geotechnical data to enhance mine design and operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with site teams to implement ground control measures and monitor geotechnical instrumentation for stability assessments.
Throughout the graduate program, the individual will be involved in maintaining geotechnical instrumentation, facilitating third-party data analysis, and developing practical solutions to mitigate geotechnical risks. The role will also involve participating in safety initiatives and contributing to continuous improvement projects. By actively engaging in structured training and mentorship, the graduate will develop technical expertise and gain valuable industry experience.

About you
The Graduate Geotechnical Engineer will bring a strong technical foundation and a proactive approach to learning in a dynamic mining environment. This role requires a keen analytical mindset, problem-solving abilities, and the capability to apply geotechnical principles to real-world mining operations. The successful candidate will demonstrate adaptability, effective communication skills, and a commitment to safety while working in both open-cut and underground settings.
To be successful, this candidate will require the following skills:
- A tertiary degree in Civil, Mining, Geological, or Geotechnical Engineering (Master’s/PhD is advantageous).
- Experience or knowledge of geotechnical investigations, risk management processes, and mining methods.
- Strong analytical skills, technical proficiency or numerical analysis, and competency in Microsoft Office and geotechnical software.
- Manual Driver’s License or the ability to obtain a manual driver’s license before the program begins.
